The Method

The clients could choose which competencies that is needed, or it could be sincronized between the competencies owned by the client with the one that firstasia consultants already have. The methods used in designing the assessment center will depend on the competencies that will be measured.

Inventory

The participant is asked to fill out a personality inventory, where the items are designed to measure the behavior in the work field known as The Big Five Personality at Work™.
The Big Five or the Five Factor of Personality is the most current, valid and reliable means of assessing personality available today. Psychologists are predicting that it will be the primary means of understanding personality in the 21st century. For the last of twelve years, the Five Factor Model (FFM) of Personality has primarily been tested and re-tested in the academic and research communities and has been founded to be a superior model. Big five tools applied to industry have 0.86 to 0.92 reliability.
The Big Five Personality at Work comprices Five Factors or Super Traits. They are NEGATIVE EMOTIONALITY (the degree to which we respond to stress), EXTRAVERSION (the degree to which we tolerate sensory stimulation from people / situations), OPENNESS (the degree to which we are open to new experiences / ways of doing things), AGREEABLENESS (the degree to which we defer to others) and CONSCIENTIOUSNESS (the degree to which we push toward goals).

Competency Based Interview

  • The assessment center also include with Competency Based Interview. The questions are focused on the competencies measured.
Group Discussion
  • The participant is asked to discuss a problem or topic in a group consist of 3-6 people. The topic is tailor-made to match the needs of the company and the goal of the assessment.
  • The Group Discussion method is devided into 3 models, which is Leaderless Group Discussion-Cooperative, Leaderless Group Discussion-Competitive and Focus Group Discussion.
  • The competencies that can be explored here are basic leadership orientation, analytical thinking, decision making and presentation skill.
Role Play
  • The participant is asked to play a particular role required in the company and is asked to play against another individual acting out another type of role.
  • Those roles are usually found to interact together in a company. Through this role-play, listening ability, service orientation and decision making skill can be evaluated.
Presentation
  • The participant will be given an amount of time prepare and conduct a presentation.
    They will be given a number of topics to choose from, which are previously decided by firstasia consultants and the client company involved.
  • The competencies that can be explored are planning & organizing, relationship building, analytical thinking and presentation skill.
Case Analysis
  • The participant will be given a case to be analized and solved. The case’s topic is tailor-made to match the needs of the company and the goal of the assessment.
  • After analized the case, assessee is asked to report the result in front of a group (like in presentation method) or in front of assessor (like in interview).
  • The competencies that can be explored are numerical accuracy, written communication and analytical thinking.
In-Tray Exercise
  • The participant is asked to respond to various items that are already prepared in an in-tray exercise. The task is to write down what he or she will do in the real job.
  • The items in the in-tray include letters, memos, and telephone notes. The material in the in-tray will also include information about staff, organization structure, and other standard procedure used in the company.The competencies that can be explored here are planning & organizing, delegation, analytical thinking and decision making.
